As the Mets begin the season 9-5 and first in the NL East the offense has been underwhelming. With the team ranked in the bottom half of every offensive category in MLB the team needs a jolt. Luckily, that jolt is coming from the return of two starting players in Francisco Alvarez and Jeff McNeil. Both players have recently begun rehab assignments down in Port St. Lucie for the A ball team. Both have recorded hits in their debuts and both expect to be in AAA Syracuse next week if all goes to plan. This will be a significant boost to the bottom half of the lineup.
Jeff McNeil who is coming off a hot second half in the 2024 season will provide better production at second base compared to the production that they have gotten from the platoon of Acuna and Baty. Credit to Senger and Torrens for holding down the catcher position on the defensive side with some contributions on the offensive side. Alvarez can provide that sneaky power towards the back end of the lineup with a ceiling that has yet to be reached at the MLB level. If you can plug out Baty/Acuna and replace it with McNeil you are gaining offense the same as goes as replacing Senger with Alvarez.
