Today is November 17th which means in the baseball world is the deadline to tender contracts to arbitration elgible players. The Mets have until 8 p.m. tonight to tender contracts to player such as David Peterson and Joey Luchessi. I am going to give you my three predictions on who will be non-tendered by nights end.
Jeff Brigham (owed $1,100,00)
Jeff Brigham is the easiest candidate to non-tender. In 2023 Brigham in 37.2 innings posted a 5.26 ERA with a -0.1 WAR. With the numbers that he posted this past year and scheduled to make 1.1 million dollars I think the team should look into an arm with a higher upside
Luis Guillorme (owed $ 1,700,000)
This is a really tough one to write because Luis Guillorme is a fan favorite across the fan base. However, this past year we saw him take a step back in his game and that is his defense. This past year we saw Guillorme post -1 OAA and a DWAR -2.3. Luis Guillorme was never known for his bat, but with his value in defense taking a step back I think the Mets could look into cheaper options in house such as Zack Short or Jeremiah Jackson to fill the void.
Daniel Vogelbach (owed 2,600,000)
I will be simply surprised if Vogelbach remains on this roster after 8 p.m. tonight. The numbers do show that he is a valuable player by being an above average hitter via OPS+ in his past two seasons. However, I just don't see him as a key piece in David Stearns’s vision of 2024. David Stearns is really hammering the idea of run prevention to the team's success. With Vogelbach not having a position this makes him the odd man out. When he came over in 2022 Vogelbach posted a .830 OPS in 55 games as a Met by being a solid left handed bat from the DH position. The Mets quite simply need a legit threat behind Pete Alonso, a player that can play against lefties and righties, a player that is not looking just for walks, and most importantly positional flexibility.
